As the domain administrator, you can create and maintain accounts, aliases, distribution lists, and resources in your domain. You can also create another domain administrator for your domain. The Zimbra global administrator configures the domain's global settings and account features and preferences. You cannot modify this information.
Do not use the browser's Back and Forward buttons to navigate through the Zimbra administration console. Use the Zimbra Back and Forward buttons, located on the right of the Account toolbar, to move to additional pages in a list.
You manage the following account details with user accounts:
Provision new accounts. The New Account Wizard guides you through the steps to create new accounts on the domain.
Edit account information. You can edit account information and change the account status. Active accounts can receive and send mail. You can change an account status from active to maintenance, locked, or closed.
Change password for a selected account. Select the user account in the list, and on the Accounts toolbar click Change Password, to quickly change a password.
Delete an account. This removes the account from the domain. If you don't want to delete the account, but want the account to be inaccessible, you can change the account status to locked or closed.
Add notes to an account. Use the Notes text field to track changes to the account and log account issues.
View the date and time that the account was last accessed. On the Account Content pane, the Last Login Time column shows when the account was last accessed. You can search for accounts by last login time.
You cannot view or change an account's features or preferences. These are set by the domain COS.
Depending on your access privileges, you may be able to set the quota for accounts. The global administrator sets the maximum quota that you can set for an account.
If you do not have this privilege, you can view an account's mailbox quota, but you cannot change the limit. To change quotas, features, and preferences for accounts, contact the Global Administrator.
You can create, delete, and move aliases. An alias is an email address that forwards all email to a specified account. An alias is not a email account. You can view all created aliases from the Aliases content pane. To see which account an alias is configured for, hover the mouse over the alias address. A tool tip shows the account associated with the alias. From the Aliases toolbar, you can create new aliases for an account and move aliases from one account to another.
You can create, modify, and delete distribution lists for your domain. A distribution list is a group of email addresses contained in a list with a common email address. When you send to a distribution list, you are sending to everyone whose address is included in the list. The To: address line displays the distribution list address, the individual recipient addresses cannot be viewed.
You can create resources that users can schedule when the create a meeting invite. The resource can be either a location or resource such as equipment, catering, etc. You do not need to monitor these mailboxes on a regular basis. The contents of the resource mailboxes are deleted according to the restrictions set in the COS for your domain.
You can download and run the Zimbra Migration Wizard programs to migrate mail accounts to the Zimbra server and to import the mail and contact information for selected users.
